DIL Rules (Introduction III)

Another tool that dreamers can use is the power of arts. Arts are abilities that dreamers learn as they level up, allowing them to alter the dream in small ways. Healing other allies, freezing monsters in battle, teleporting across the dream or creating small illusions – arts are useful in a variety of situations.

You can pick and choose which arts you want to learn as you level up, allowing you to customise your character’s build with no limitations. As you reach the higher levels, even more powerful arts will become available, allowing you to fuse with your familiar, transform into a monster, create gigantic explosions or even produce black holes!

Depending on what kind of familiar you have, you may even gain access to certain arts for free, giving you an even greater range of abilities. Combine powerful arts with your allies in order to turn the tables against monsters, or apply them outside of battle to avoid combat altogether.

Even the arts that you learn at lower levels will continue to be useful. Arts become more powerful the deeper you go into the dream; they might do more damage, become quicker to use, or even gain new effects altogether.

Utilising dreamcraft, your familiar, and arts, you must explore each floor of the dream, facing the monsters that stand in your way; of course, you can’t forget to balance your social lives outside the dream, too. Anyone you meet could be a potential dreamer or a useful friend, and when you’re trapped in darkness, feeling the fear rising up within you, perhaps it’s those hazy memories of summer afternoons with your friends that will motivate you to keep fighting.

Next time, we’ll move away from dreamers and familiars, and begin to look at the other important denizens of the dream: the monsters.
